We almost shipped the feature our biggest customer asked for.
Then one question changed the roadmap:
“If we build this exactly as requested, what problem will still be there?”
It turned out the feature was a workaround for a permissions issue. Fixing the root problem took half the time—and helped every customer, not just one.
The lesson wasn’t “don’t listen to customers.” It was: listen for the job underneath the request.
